What is Drag flicking?

Drag flicking is a scoring technique used in attacking penalty corners involving two main components - a scoop and a flick. The technique loosely involves a running up, and then a forceful 'slinging' technique of the ball around your body, towards the goal.

Below you'll find examples of drag flicks at the Olympics.

The Breakdown

Spread over 6 technical sessions (1.25h) on the turf and 6 drills sessions (1h) in the shed on alternating weeks, Paul has developed a programme that looks at all the components of the drag flick technique in isolation. These sessions will be held over the summer period from December 2023 through to February 2024 with the technical sessions on Saturday mornings, and the drills sessions organised to best suit the registered players.

Sessions 1 & 2 will cover the movements of the legs and pelvis

These foundational sessions focus on lower body positioning and movement. We will work on strengthening leg muscles, optimizing weight transfer, and honing pelvis movement.

Sessions 3 & 4 will cover the pelvis and trunk

Building on the foundation, we refine pelvis and trunk coordination, essential for a fluid drag flick action.

Sessions 5 & 6 will cover the trunk and arms synchronisation

These sessions integrate perfected leg, pelvis, and trunk movements with precise arm actions, fostering consistency and accuracy.

The proposed schedule can be found in more detail below.

The COST

There will be a nominal fee of $30 per person (total) to help cover costs and turf hireage.
